Sanibel Congregational UCC to install new Senior Pastor on Sunday

The Rev. Dr. John H. Danner

The Rev. Dr. John H. Danner will be installed as the new Senior Pastor at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ this Sunday, March 14 at a service to be held in the congregation’s sanctuary at 4 p.m.

The special guest preacher for the service will be the Rev. Dr. Jerry Fritz, Pastor of the Federated Church in Edgartown, Mass. The Rev. Kent Siladi, Conference Minister for the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ, and the Rev. Jean Simpson, the Gulf Coast Regional Minister for the United Church of Christ, will also participate with a number of visiting clergy and local lay leaders.

Music for the service will be provided by the congregations Choir, under the direction of Elwood Smith, accompanied by Billie Kellogg and Cantor Doug Renfroe from Temple Bat Yam. A reception will follow the service, and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Dr. Danner arrived on Sanibel late in January, after serving as Senior Pastor of the Saugatuck Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) in Westport, Ct. since 2001. Danner was ordained in 1980, and has also served pastorates in Maine, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey. He was educated at Bradford College, the University of Maine, Bangor Theological Seminary and Boston University.

In addition, Dr. Danner served a residency in pastoral psychotherapy at the Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center in Syracuse, N.Y., and is certified as a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. He is also a graduate of the Shalem Institute of Spiritual Formation, and is a member of Spiritual Directors International.

Dr. Danner and his wife, Linda Bradbury-Danner, are living on island. Their children live in Fort Myers, Orlando and Cambridge, Mass. They have four grandchildren.
