Panel preparing for Food & Travel Fest
The Captiva Community Panel will be putting on their second annual Food & Travel Festival fundraiser, hosted by South Seas Island Resort, on Thursday, April 8 in Chadwick’s Square from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
“This will really give us a great kickstart on being able to fund our projects in the future. We can’t always count on the grants coming in,” said panel president Sandy Silverglide at last week’s panel meeting.
The fundraiser will help to assist the panel in 2010 with many initiatives, including the continuation of the two year water quality study through the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) and the redrafting of the land development code, which focuses on height restrictions, signage, mangrove protection and water quality.
“South Seas is honored to play a role again this year in the Captiva Food & Travel Fest,” said Rick Hayduk, managing director of South Seas Island Resort and Captiva Community Panel member. “This event is just one successful way to preserve the way of life on Captiva and the natural resources found here. This is a way of giving back and bringing the island community together for a great cause.”
During the festival, attendants can sample different kinds of cuisine as local restaurants offer up their “signature” dish in exchange for a $5 donation. Participating restaurants will include The Mucky Duck, Holy Smoke Heavenly Barbecue and Better Burgers, Key Lime Bistro, The Bubble Room and many more.
“We’re looking for auction items. If people want to donate or if you know of people who can donate things we can auction off – gift baskets, trips, fishing guides, houses for rent – we definitely need items,” Silverglide added.
This year’s silent auction, so far, includes a variety of dining and travel opportunities, including certificates to local restaurants, items from local businesses such as spa treatments and gifts. Vacation opportunities include South Seas Island Resort, ‘Tween Waters Inn, Boca Raton Resort and Club, La Valencia, Calif., The Breakers Palm Beach and vacation rentals in and around Captiva in private homes and condominiums.
The live auction list consists of items such as a private wine dinner with South Seas Island Resort executive chef Joey Pesner and a professional photo shoot with nationally recognized photographer Rene Miville. There will also be t-shirts – designed exclusively for the event -offered for sale.
