As season rolls into full swing, the Captiva Civic Association is getting ready for an eclectic line-up of events, including their regular business meetings, informative CPR/AED training session and annual potluck party.

The CCA will hold their general business meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m.

In addition to the CCA’s usual committee reports, the meeting will also present brief updates from various community organizations, including the Captiva Memorial Library, Captiva Island Fire Control District, Captiva Erosion Prevention District and the Captiva Hurricane Preparation and Response Committee.

Following the regular meeting, representatives from the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation marine laboratory, Dr. Loren Coen and Mark Thompson, will give a special presentation about the ongoing Captiva water quality study.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.

On Thursday, Jan. 28, the CCA, in partnership with the Captiva Island Fire Control District will be hosting a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED 9 Automated External Defibrillator) at 9 a.m in the Captiva Civic Center, 11560 Chapin Lane.

The course – including instructional materials and a certification card – is $20.

The fire department asks that those interested in taking the course register in advance as soon as possible by calling 472-9494 or stopping by the station, 14981 Captiva Drive.

That Saturday, Jan. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., the CCA will host their annual potluck dinner.

“It’s a Captiva Pigskin party potluck with a football theme. We’re encouraging people to wear their favorite football team colors and, if anyone has a viking hat or a cheesehead, we’d love to see people come with some fun attire representing their favorite team. Everyone is invited,” said Sharon Brace of the CCA.

“Last year we had an overflow crowd attending and we look forward to seeing everyone again. There is a requested $5 cover charge this year to help pay for the meat course, beverages and other items. Everyone attending is asked to bring their choice of desserts, salads, veggies or casserole dishes,” said Paul Garvey, executive director for the CCA.

In addition, the CCA is currently displaying an exhibition featuring pieces by Karen Stone and William Wahlgren in the civic center.
