Suspects arrested after eluding police Monday night
On Monday, April 13 at approximately 10:36 p.m., the Sanibel Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle which was traveling in excess of 80 mph on Sanibel-Captiva Road. The patrol vehicle broke off pursuit and approximately two minutes later, the suspect vehicle was found crashed into a telephone pole at Rabbit Road and Sanibel-Captiva Road.
According to witnesses at the scene of the accident, two male occupants exited the vehicle and fled the scene.
In an attempt to locate the suspects, the Lee County Sheriffs’ Office responded to Sanibel’s mutual aid request with a Canine Unit and helicopter.
The two suspects were located walking down Palm Ridge Road at approximately 7:50 a.m. on April 14 by Sanibel Police Department. Both suspects have suspended driver’s licenses, and one suspect was arrested for an active warrant for violation of probation from Lee County.
Additional charges are pending for eluding police and leaving the scene of an accident.
