Committee of the Islands elects new officers, adds three directors
At its recent annual meeting, Committee of the Islands (COTI) elected a new slate of officers to serve for the upcoming year.
By unanimous votes of the Board of Directors, Jim LaVelle was elected president, Allan Silberman was elected vice president, Jane Picker was elected treasurer and Linda Kramer was elected secretary. All four are long-time Sanibel residents who are actively involved in numerous island organizations:
LaVelle is a member of the board of the Rotary Club and a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation, and is a member of BIG Arts, the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Association and the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village.
Silberman is co-chair of the Democratic Club of the Island, vice chair of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, second vice president of Bat Yam Congregation, a member of the Sanibel Bicycle Club and the Rocks Community Association.
Picker is a member of SCCF, CROW, BIG Arts, the French Circle, the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village and is co-founder of the Russia-United States
Legal Education Foundation.
Kramer is a commisioner of the Sanibel Public Library, curatorial assistant
of the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, onstage chair of BIG Arts and a member of Zonta.
In addition, three new directors were appointed to COTI Board, including Jill Dillon, Tom Rothman and Herb Rubin.
Dillon, a Sanibel resident since 1988, is a founding member of the Democratic Club of the Island, a member of the Zonta Club of the Islands, and is president of Seagull Estates Homeowners Association.
Rothman is a former Sanibel city councilman, is currently first vice president of the Sanibel Captiva Lions Club, and is a board member of the Sanibel Community Association.
Rubin, a Sanibel resident since 1994, is Professor Emeritus University of Pittsburgh, a former member of the Sanibel Vegetation and Recycling Committee, and is a director of the Rocks Civic Association.
In welcoming the new directors, COTI president Jim LaVelle said “We’re proud and delighted to have three such prominent Sanibel citizens join our board.”
