Attend Hurricane Preparedness Program March 6
On Friday, March 6, at 1:30 p.m., the Hurricane Preparation and Response Committee, the Captiva Island Fire Control District and the Lee County Library System will present a hurricane preparedness seminar in the Captiva Civic Association meeting room, located at 11560 Chapin Lane.
Doris Holzheimer, a member of the Hurricane Preparation and Response Committee, said that Terry Kelley from the Lee County Emergency Operations Center, Stephanie Dowd from the Sanibel Police Department, Terry Cerullo of the Florida Department of Finance, Lt. Alan Delamter of the Captiva Island Fire Control District and structural safety inspection crew and WINK chief meteorologist Jim Farrell will all be speaking at the event.
Holzheimer and Captiva Memorial Library branch manager Ann Bradley will also be speaking at the event.
Sanibel Police Department Emergency Management Specialist Stephanie Dowd will be attending the meeting to inform and sign up residents for 2009 hurricane hang tags.
In the likely event that the hang tags are not available by the time of the program, Dowd will take down residents’ information and distribute them when the passes arrive.
Additional information and materials such as 2009 home owner authorization letters and hurricane pass forms are available on the hurricane committee’s Web site, www.mycaptiva.info.
Committee member Doris Holzheimer suggested that people download the hurricane pass form from the committee’s Web site and bring with them something that indicates proof of their physical address – not P.O. Box – such as a driver’s license and telephone or electric bill so that Dowd can sign you up for a hurricane hang tag.
There will also be a training session for people interested in becoming a part of the Captiva SSI team.

The Hurricane Preparedness Program is open to the public and free of charge.
