Duffy accepts position with Maryland-based Planning Commission
On Monday, Sanibel City Manager Judith Zimomra announced that Robert J. Duffy, AICP, is resigning as Director of the City’s Planning Department to assume the position of Planning Supervisor with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Mr. Duffy’s resignation is effective March 16.
Zimomra also announced the City Planner, James C. Jordan, will serve as Acting Director effective March 17.
Jordan, the City’s Senior Planner, has been employed by the City of Sanibel since 1985. He earned his Bachelors degree in Public Administration from the University of Florida. He also holds an Associates Degree from Edison State College.
During Duffy’s tenure, the Planning Department has completed a number of key projects including:
The 2007 update of the Sanibel Plan
Comprehensive amendments to the Land Development Code’s Commercial Zoning regulations
Formulation of Town Center commercial redevelopment policies and design guidelines
Introduction of revised development permitting processes and procedures to insure consistent and timely service
Initiation of improvements to the HTE permitting management system and the GIS Needs Assessment in conjunction with the MIS Department
Completion of the final draft of the 2009 Shared Use Path Master Plan
The recent submission of Sanibel Plan amendments to address capital improvement programming, water supply and school concurrency.
“Director Duffy has served the City of Sanibel extremely well as a highly respected and productive member of our management team,” Zimomra stated. “We are fortunate that a senior employee with Mr. Jordan’s decades of institutional knowledge will be assuming the Acting Director position during this transition.”
