Traucht retirement party planned
If you’ve ever dropped off a letter or wandered into the Sanibel Post Office to pick up a stamp, you might have bumped into one of the island’s most well-respected and friendly inhabitants.
Having moved to Sanibel in 1973, Traucht began working at the post office in 1975.
“I started out as a substitute rural carrier,” Traucht said. “Then I was a part-time flexible clerk, then a regular clerk and then I became supervisor in 1987.”
Ron Carlson has worked at the post office with Traucht for about 22 years.
“He wasn’t only a boss, he was a friend… a very good friend,” Carlson said. “We would always go over and above for Thom because he treated us all so well.”
Traught took off from work in March of 2008 due to a knee replacement surgery. After realizing he had all the credentials to retire, he decided to go for it and made his last day July 2, 2008.
Now, to celebrate Traucht’s 30-plus years of service to the Sanibel community, a special retirement party will be held in his honor, and -according to invitation fliers that have been circulating the islands for quite some time – everyone is invited!
The special celebration will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 6 until 10 p.m. at the Sanibel Community House, located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. There is no admission to attend and all are welcome.
