Elvis has been spotted – or will be spotted at Lily & Co. Jewelers on Sanibel. He will be part of a special 1950’s rock and roll party being held at Lily’s to benefit a local environment organization.

Lily & Co. Jewelers is holding a benefit, “Lily Rocks for PURRE,” on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 6 to 10 p.m., announced store co-owner’s Dan Schuyler and Karen Bell.

The rock and roll themed event will benefit People United to Restore our Rivers and Estuaries (PURRE). Event activities include an Elvis impersonator, catered food, rock ‘n roll music by DJ Mike Perry and a live auction of upscale items including jewelry, art work, and more. 1950-style costumes are optional. Tickets are $75 per person. RSVP’s are requested by Feb. 4.

Special guests include representatives from the Henderson Collection, featuring their new line of chocolate brown gold.

PURRE is a grassroots environment group dedicated to keeping Sanibel’s water clean and healthy. Mike Valiquette, Developer and chairman of the Sanibel Planning Commission started the non-profit organization after seeing pollution in the bay near his home on Bay Drive. Valiquette, president of PURRE wanted to get citizens together to help restore Sanibel waters to an unpolluted state. He said it will take about 10 years to do so.

“The mission is obviously extremely important for the way of life around Sanibel,” he said. “We have to have continued support.”

Schuyler and Bell wanted to make a difference and offered to sponsor the event for PURRE.

“It’s going to be a blast,” Schuyler said. “It’s a golden opportunity to bring the community together.”

A painting by Myra Roberts will be in the live auction as well as a dazzling natural pink sapphire necklace – donated by Lily’s.

Tickets are limited and its first come first serve – they are expected to go fast.
