Salon selects Sanibel School teacher as Mommy Makeover contest winner
Savannah DeBarr’s love and admiration for her mother, Monica DeBarr, won over a salon’s staff conducting a makeover contest on the islands.
Thirteen-year-old Savannah — along with some help from her siblings Autumn, 9, and Dakota, 4 — wrote to Tribeca Salon detailing the reasons her mom would enjoy a makeover and a day of pampering.
Here’s an excerpt from the letter she sent to the salon, who initiated the Mommy Makeover contest last month:
“My Mom deserves to win because she never does anything for herself. She’s always driving us kids around and taking us places so she never has time to go to a salon.”
Domizio Melchiorre, head stylist and owner of Tribeca Salon located in The Village Shops off Periwinkle Way, is delighted to choose Monica DeBarr — a teacher at The Sanibel School — to be the winner.
“It just touched my heart to bring a little sunshine to someone at Christmas time,” he said.
Tribeca Salon sought nominations for makeover candidates from the community. People interested in participating had to select someone that they feel will benefit most from a makeover. They were asked to write why the person — mother, sister, friend or neighbor — is deserving of a makeover.
“She deserves to have someone take care of her for a day, making her hair and nails look nice, and even giving her a new outfit to wear,” the winning entry reads. “I know she would love a massage, too! She always talks about that!”
DeBarr, as the winner of the makeover, will receive a restyle, which will include a haircut and coloring (if desired) at Tribeca Salon. The service is valued at $115.
Other businesses at The Village Shops are also participating in the makeover event. Massage and Bodywork of Sanibel Island is donating a facial and Head To Toes By Tina will be giving the winner a manicure and pedicure. Why Knot clothiers have planned to give the makeover winner an outfit and Friday’s Child, a children’s clothing store, is offering a 10 percent discount on all merchandise.
The makeover event will be held sometime in January.
