Sanibel council member appointed to Florida League of Cities committee
Sanibel City Councilwoman Holly Smith was recently appointed to serve on the Municipal Administration Legislative Policy Committee for the Florida League of Cities.
The committee addresses municipal concerns with building and fire safety codes, code enforcement, elections, emergency management, gaming, homeland security, public meetings, public property management, public records, public safety and procurement, as well as charter counties and special districts.
The Florida League of Cities is the united voice of Florida’s municipal governments. The league represents more than 400 cities, towns and villages. It is headquartered in Tallahassee and is governed by a board of elected municipal officials.
Smith became a member of the city council in December. She currently serves as the council’s liaison to the Sanibel Planning Commission and the Contractor Review Board.

Sanibel City Councilman Jason Maughan was recently appointed to serve on the Finance, Taxation and Personnel Legislative Policy Committee for the Florida League of Cities.
The committee addresses municipal roles in general finance and tax issues, Home Rule revenues, infrastructure funding, insurance, local option revenues, pension issues, personnel and collective bargaining issues, revenue sharing, tax and budget reform, telecommunications and workers’ compensation, according to city officials.

Maughan was elected to the city council in March. He currently serves as council’s liaison to the General Employees’ Pension Board of Trustees, Sanibel Municipal Police Officers’ Board of Trustees and Community Housing Resources, and Coast & Island Community Land Trust. Maughan is also the liaison to the Vegetation Committee and School District of Lee County.
