Pizzeria to open at Bailey’s Center next month
Food choice grows by one in November.
The city has approved a request by a Sanibel businessman to open a pizzeria at the Bailey’s Shopping Center complex. Beach Piez will serve a thin-crust pizza and sandwiches for takeout and delivery only, said Chuck Bergstrom, the owner and an island realtor.
“I think we’ll be a great addition to the island,” Bergstrom said. His store will be next to the new Billy’s at Bailey’s bike rental storefront that opened in August.
Bergstrom is a Chicago native who enjoyed that city’s distinctive pizza as a child, and was “always fascinated by the (pizza) business. And I like pizzait’s really as simple as that.”
Bergstrom expects that Beach Piez will hire up to five workers, plus delivery staff. Construction will begin in a couple of weeks, with a targeted Nov. 1 opening. Store hours will be 11 a.m. through 9 p.m., he said.
“I’m anxious to take (the store) out for a test drive,” he said.
