Bank of the Islands nationally recognized

2 min read

In celebration of Community Banking Month in April, the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) chose to recognize three banks nationwide in its Independent Banker magazine. They were Bank of Oak Ridge in North Carolina, Home State Bank in Illinois, and Lee County’s very own Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands.

“We are so honored to be included in this coverage,” said Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands Chief Executive Officer Geoff Roepstorff. “To be one of only three banks profiled among thousands of ICBA community banks nationwide means a great deal to our bankers and the customers we serve.”

In the article entitled “Consumers’ Choice,” Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands is recognized for its local decision-making and commitment to being an independent community bank. In quoting bank President Robbie Roepstorff on the decision to found the bank in 1997, the article stated:

“We were seeing all these bank mergers and buyouts, and that happened at the bank we were at,” said Roepstorff. “So Geoff and I approached a couple of the directors and they were right on board. They wanted a long-term community bank.”

The article also praised Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands for its extensive commitment to community volunteerism and philanthropy. Among the examples they cited were the “We Love Our Islands” program and “Literacy Buddies.”

“We believe in giving back to the community we serve,” said the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Geoff Roepstorff. “It’s a win-win for everybody.”
