Airport traffic at RSW still up for 2011

During the month of August, 420,105 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, a decrease of 5.5 percent compared to August 2010. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 3.3 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in August was Delta with 95,661 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were AirTran (71,374), Southwest (62,012), JetBlue (45,215) and US Airways (42,406).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,917 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 8 percent compared to August 2010. Page Field saw 5,059 movements, a 0.2 percent increase from August 2010.

In addition, more than 2.5 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in August 2011, an increase of 5.4 percent compared to August 2010.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.5 million passengers in 2010 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
