Passengers, freight figures at RSW drop in July

During the month of July, 457,194 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, a decrease of 6.7 percent compared to July 2010. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.2 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in July was Delta with 86,708 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were AirTran (84,302), Southwest (75,426), JetBlue (49,758) and US Airways (45,135).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 5,140 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 8.6 percent compared to July 2010. Page Field saw 5,401 movements, an 11.1 percent increase from July 2010.

In addition, more than 2.4 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in July 2011, a decrease of 7.9 percent compared to July 2010.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.5 million passengers in 2010 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
