‘Lily Rocks’ gathers $2,445 for Friends Who Care

After five years in business, the folks at Lily & Co. Jewelers are again proving to be upstanding members of the Sanibel and Captiva community, donating proceeds from Saturday’s “Lily Rocks” family picnic and fundraiser to Friends Who Care, an organization which provides assistance — on an anonymous basis — to islanders in need throughout the year.
According to store co-owner Dan Schuyler, between 300 and 400 guests attended the July 16 soiree, held in celebration of Lily & Co.’s fifth anniversary.
“This event actually started as Island Appreciation Day,” recalled Schuyler. “We just wanted to hold a picnic and have some fun in the middle of the summer, when things aren’t too busy. At the same time, we wanted to thank our customers who have supported us, and give something back to the community, too.”
On Saturday, the event raised nearly $2,500 for Friends Who Care. Last year, the organization helped support approximately 120 children and 40 senior citizens living on Sanibel and Captiva.
Schuyler thanked the event’s sponsors — including Bailey’s General Store, The Grog Shop, Traders, R.S. Walsh Landscaping and the Sanctuary Golf Club — for donating prizes for Lily & Co.’s $1-per-chance raffle tickets.
“We really want to thank the residents of Sanibel and Captiva for supporting the cause, and for supporting our store for the past five years,” he added. “We also wanted to thank the Sanibel Police Department for helping us with traffic and security, as well as the Sanibel Fire Department for bringing out the truck for the kids to see.”
