Commercial, residential permits rise during March
Permitting for the Park Royal Hospital – a psychiatric facility valued at approximately $21.8 million in the Health Park medical campus – helped boost the value of commercial permitting in unincorporated Lee County during March to nearly $40 million.
For the second month in a row, commercial permitting hit amounts typical of early 2007. In February, commercial permits issued for projects in unincorporated Lee County totaled nearly $39 million due to the new Red Sox Stadium, which Lee County is building on Daniels Parkway.
March’s commercial value also includes an $8 million oxidation ditch, which is being built by the Florida Government Utility Authority (FGUA) in North Fort Myers, and additional permits for the Sox sports complex, including batting tunnels and a maintenance building.
The nearly $40,000 value of March’s commercial permits compares to $39 million in commercial permitting during February and $796,800 in March 2010.
Also during March, contractors pulled 25 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at more than $6 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 20 permits issued in February and 51 issued in March 2010, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.
Permits were issued for eight multi-family units, compared to four in February and four in March 2010.
