Lily & Co. earns sterling reputation for supporting community causes
Since Lily & Co. Jewelers first opened their doors for business four-and-a-half years ago, owners Dan Schuyler and Karen Bell wanted their store not only to thrive but to truly become part of the island community.
Today, the internationally-heralded jeweler has firmly established itself as one of the island’s most giving and compassionate, civic-minded businesses.
Recently, Lily & Co. staged the Charles Krypell Holiday Celebration, in conjunction with their support of Friends Who Care, collecting donations of both money and goods on behalf of the outreach organization who assists less fortunate islanders in need.
“We raffled off a Charles Krypell 18-karat gold and sterling silver necklace, accented with citrine, which is part of their Precious Pastels Collection,” said Schuyler, who noted the piece was valued at $2,000. “By doing that, we were able to collect $233 for Friends Who Care. At this time of year, that money will mean a lot to those who need it.”
In addition, the store collected — and is still accepting — presents on behalf of Friends Who Care. Island residents and visitors are encouraged to bring their unwrapped donations to Lily & Co., located at 520 Tarpon Bay Road, now through Wednesday, Dec. 22.
This Friday, Dec. 10, the jeweler — ranked the No. 2 designer jewelry store in the nation by Jeweler’s Circular Keystone this past summer — will also host its inaugural Ladies Night Out.
Between 5 and 9 p.m., the entire store will be discounted 25 to 50 percent off for all ladies and their guests in attendance. This special promotion, however, does not apply to Rolex merchandise, Schuyler noted.
“Karen wanted to do this last year,” he explained. “We had a plan to have a night when the ladies could come out and enjoy themselves, hear some live music, and do some shopping at the same time.”
Live entertainment, food and refreshments will be provided by Lily & Co., who will also raffle off a number of jewelry items for the benefit of F.I.S.H. (Friends In Service Here) of Sanibel. Among those items are pieces by designer Alexis Barbea (valued at $895) and Nanis (valued at $1,200).
“The ladies can come out and fill their holiday wish lists,” added Schuyler. “We have a variety of items for sale here, from $35 up to a half-million. It’s not just jewelry, either.”
Schuyler noted the business carries a variety of gifts including picture frames, hummingbird feeders, oil lamps, Japanese flower pots, fused glass mirrors, clocks, candle holders, handbags, totes and pillows, jewelry boxes and fine art by artists like Luc Century, Myra Roberts, Eleanor Ward and Alan S. Maltz.
“Karen and I have been involved with island charitable groups from day one,” he added. “This is a tight community, very family oriented. Everybody gives a lot, but that’s just a part of what this community does.”
Lily & Co store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 472-2888 or visit www.lilyjewelers.com.
