Airline traffic drops again during December
During the month of December, 676,078 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, a decrease of 2.2 percent compared to December 2008. Passenger traffic for 2009 was down 2.5 percent compared to 2008.
The traffic leader in December was AirTran, with 124,542 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were JetBlue (93,660), Delta (82,970), Southwest (61,518) and Northwest (60,646).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 8,030 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 5.4 percent compared to December 2008. Page Field General Aviation Airport saw 6,563 movements, a 1.3 percent increase from December 2008.
In addition, more than 3.5 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in December 2009.
Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.4 million passengers in 2009 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
