Southwest Florida International Airport reports August traffic
During the month of August, 454,927 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 1.4 percent compared to August 2008. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is down 3.2 percent over the same period last year.
The traffic leader in August was Delta with 64,825 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (64,367), AirTran (58,780), JetBlue (56,463) and US Airways (48,508).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 5,571 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), an increase of 2.8 percent compared to August 2008. Page Field General Aviation Airport saw 5,473 movements, a 20.1 percent increase from August 2008. In addition, more than 2.3 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in August 2009.
Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2008 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
