Lily’s plans all-out fun anniversary picnic
Lily’s Jewelers carries a wide selection of sparkly hearts to wear. And even though their couture selection is distinct and beautiful in every way a precious piece of jewelry can be – it’s the store owners hearts that appear to be even more priceless.
Co-owners, Dan Schuyler and Karen Bell, wanted to do something to support the community that supports them – and have fun doing it.
So the duo came up with an idea to celebrate the business’s three-year-anniversary with a community-wide picnic. During the picnic and fundraiser for Friends in Service Here (FISH) the community is asked to bring a non-perishable food donation to help replenish the FISH food pantry.
The celebration will be held Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrity dunking in a dunk tank – including Mayor Mick Denham – will be the hot item at the event. There will be a raffle for a bike from Billy’s Rentals. Billy’s rentals will also be giving Segway tours and there will be hot dogs from Schnapper’s Hots and cold drinks complements of Bailey’s. Other festivities include fire truck demos from Sanibel Fire and Rescue. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets are available at Lily’s located at 520 Tarpon Bay Road, across from Bailey’s. Winners need not be present to win. All proceeds go to FISH.
“We’ve been wanting to raise money for FISH because they’re in dire need of it,” said Dan Schuyler.
The event is also designed as a fun way for the community to enjoy the dog days of summer.
“It’s our first time celebrating our anniversary,” Schuyler said.
Lily’s plans to raise money while giving the community something to laugh about by dunking community leaders and VIPs in a tank.
Folks will have the chance to dunk the fun-loving Schuyler and charming Mayor Mick Denham in the tank. Other notables to be soaked include the Sanibel Fire Chief Danny Duncan, Ric Base, the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce president and Richard Johnson, the manager at Bailey’s.
Mayor Mick Denham chuckles when he thinks of getting dunked by the community and possibly fellow staffers.
“Everybody wants to dunk the mayor,” Denham said. “I will be glad to do it. I am very young at heart.”
Maggi Feiner, president of FISH, said the help is much needed for the agency struggling to meet growing demands for food and sustenance.
“I think it’s a wonderful idea that they’re doing it for us,” Feiner said. “They’re doing it for our community.”
