Unique boutique features ‘Something Special’
Whether you need something soft and pretty for your baby niece or something clever and inspirational for your worldly sister chances are you will find it at Amy’s Something Special boutique.
The store nestled in the Olde Sanibel Shoppes off of Tarpon Road appears quaint and yet unpretentious. But what seems a simple white store on the outside, opens into a Paris-like shop inside.
Owner Amy Horton said she likes vintage pieces. There are baubles, cutesy flip flops, knick knacks and even a wine bag with renowned artist Gustav Klimt’s Kiss piece on it.
“I like to have a mix of things so I can have something for everyone,” Horton said.
Colorful sundresses in every hue flutter on hangers. T-shirts made of bamboo with positive-minded quotes by historical figures such as Anne Frank are available. The eco-friendly shirts are made by Know and cost $42.
Horton features products by local artists and crafters. Anita Smith’s durable felt bags are an island favorite.
“They sell very well,” Horton said.
The felt bags range from $49 to $85.
And hand-painted watches by Janet Cerutti are popular with customers as well. The watches which have hand-painted faces of pets and turtles and flamingos cost $65. Cerutti can create a watch with a customer’s pet painted on it.
The store which caters to women and little girls carries a variety of children’s clothes including dresses with bling and sparkles.
For those looking for something a bit exotic, Horton has hand-made necklaces from Kenya and hand-made turtle pottery from Nicaragua.

For Horton who said she tries to keep her prices moderate and her merchandise diverse – customer joy is essential. She smiles as people squeal in delight upon finding a must-have item for their homes, friends and families.
“It’s important to try and please a lot of people,” she said.
