FOX 4 ‘Morning Blend’ features Bailey’s gluten-free offerings
Bailey’s General Store general manager Richard Johnson appeared on FOX 4 Morning Blend on Monday morning. Assistant manager Rachel Lammers and chef Brian Cook joined Johnson and the host of FOX 4 Morning Blend, Bill Wood.
The show highlighted Bailey’s line of more than 400 gluten-free products, and the importance of carrying a wide range on Sanibel. Wood donned a Bailey’s apron and hat and sampled freshly baked gluten-free brownies and cookies.
Lammers was first asked by a customer for gluten-free food in March of 2008.
“After that, it just seemed to become an everyday request,” she said.
Gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye, is a food ingredient that many have to avoid if diagnosed with celiac disease. They need a gluten-free diet to allow the body to absorb all the necessary food nutrients.
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), more than two million people in the United States now have the disease, or about one in 133 people.
Through the end of June, shoppers who mention the Morning Blend and buy one jar of Silver Palate gluten-free pasta sauce will get a second jar free.
