Sweet Melissa’s reopens in bigger location on Periwinkle Way
Fans of Sweet Melissa’s Cafe will now have more elbow room to enjoy their eclectic menu of delicious dinner entrees.
The restaurant re-opened last Saturday at their new location – 1625 Periwinkle Way – the former LaVigna Restaurant spot.
The plan to relocate Sweet Melissa’s, which used to be found at 751 Tarpon Bay Road, was finalized at the beginning of last summer. Restaurant staff will be maintaining the same quaint feel found at the former location.
“We’re the same great restaurant as before,” said manager Marlana Kennedy. “Just bigger and better.”
Executive Chef Melissa Talmadge said she is excited to be whipping up her gourmet-style cuisine in a roomier restaurant. The new eatery features outdoor seating for the guests.
Talmadge, who came aboard last May, draws a crowd with her gourmet meals. At Sweet Melissa’s, patrons have the opportunity to try a number of dishes and different foods instead of being served one huge meal.
The creative chef strives for boldness, creativity and taste.
For instance, sweetbreads – a mildly-flavored organ meat – is braised and pressed and then the delicate meat is paired with Frozin, a dessert wine. Talmadge also blends grilled shrimp with shittake mushrooms and baby bok choy. Other exotic fare such as braised cheek is also on the menu.
In addition to the smaller plates, Sweet Melissa’s will also be serving full plate dishes as well.
Fresh fish will be one of the mainstays on the nightly offerings.
Sweet Melissa’s also offers a full service bar in the new location which will be open six days a week. The restaurant will be closed on Mondays.
Lunch service is now also available starting this week. Hours for lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hours for dinner will be from 5 to 9 p.m.
