Bailey’s Hardware Store completes renovations
Following an extensive 10-week renovation project, Bailey’s True Value Hardware Store is getting back to business. In a big way.
The longtime island destination for all things “hardware” — tools, paint, plumbing supplies, gardening goods, housewares and do-it-yourself specialties — is pleased to announce its re-opening with a two-day special event this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6.
“We still carry all of the items Bailey’s has been known for,” said Richard Johnson, co-owner of Bailey’s Hardware Store, an affiliate of the True Value family of retail outlets. “Only now, we’ve added even more merchandise and we have even more space.”
Bailey’s Hardware Store — which was opened in 1982 after an expansion of the Bailey’s General Store — now comprises 8,000 square feet. According to Johnson, half of a wall near the rear of the facility was removed and the former drop ceiling was taken out, replaced with an eco-friendly insulation.
In addition, the entire floor was refurbished. All of the original tiles were removed, and the concrete base has been sanded down and polished to a fine sheen. Now, the floor requires only water to be cleaned, another green-conscious renovation.
“We don’t use any chemicals on the floor,” Johnson added.
The store now offers shoppers a compelling environment complete with an expanded product selection in core categories such as hardware, paint (with an all-new Color Center), automotive products and housewares. Regular customers will immediately notice the new layout, lighting and signage throughout the facility. The store also features a brand new fishing department with live bait, a gift center and beach gear.
“Serving the customer is top priority at Bailey’s True Value,” said Johnson. “We focus on meeting the expectations of local residents and providing the community with all the products and services they need to complete their small home improvement projects.”
Local residents are invited to participate in the grand re-opening activities all day on both Friday and Saturday. Johnson explained that in the morning, there will be free donuts and coffee for their customers. In the afternoon, hot dogs and refreshments will be handed out. There will also be a raffle for free products and a special 20 percent discount on hardware items.
“Anything that you can fit into one of our Bailey’s bags, we’ll give you 20 percent off,” he noted.
Bailey’s General Store has been in business since 1899. Bailey’s True Value is operated by Francis P. Bailey Jr., Sam Bailey and Johnson.
“We’ve got a lot more space available now,” Johnson said. “Rather than say we added more space, we like to say that we’re now using our space more efficiently.”
