Rec center provides update on activities, events
The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.
LaBlast Dance Fitness Event will be held on Feb. 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. with “Dancing with the Stars” professional dancer and LaBlast creator Louis Van Amstel. Created for people of all ages and fitness levels. No partner is needed. After the workout, there will be meet-and-greet with Van Amstel, including photo opportunities and light refreshments. Cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members in advance or $25 for members and $38 for non-members at the door. Registration is required.
Picture Perfect: 5 Weeks to Better Photos will be held on Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. with Casey Bradley Gent. Attendees will understand the basics of a professional photographer. The session will be on “Tone and Balance.” The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Registration is required.
Get to Know Your Island will take place on Feb. 10 at noon. The program will highlight the Charitable Foundation of the Islands and 100+ Women Who Care Sanibel & Captiva. The speaker series is designed to connect the community with people and organizations that make Sanibel unique. Light refreshments will be served. It is free and open to the public; registration is required.
In partnership with Fashion First Workshops, a Sewing Class will be held on Feb. 11 from noon to 2:30 p.m. The session will be on “Sew Your Own Hat.” Attendees will create a hat. The cost is $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Registration is required.
Let’s Go Shelling to Keywaydin Island will take place on Feb. 16 from 5:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Meet before the sun rises to head to Marco Island and cruise to Keywaydin Island for negative low-tide shelling. Attendees can pack a small cooler, with lunch, drinks and a chair, if needed. The cost is $62 for members and $78 for non-members. Registration is required.
The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beach parking permits are available for purchase.
New and current members can call 239-472-0345 or stop by the front desk for help with setting up their CivicRec account. A variety of memberships, passes and punch cards are available.
