City given all clear on planned prescribed burn

At about 3:15 p.m. today, July 1, the city of Sanibel received notification from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that the prescribed burn of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s Legion Curve Unit on the island is complete.
The city reported that it has been given the all clear.
The site of the burn will continue to be monitored overnight and for the next several days. Occasional smoke may be seen from the burned area for several days.

SPD: Temporary lane closure for prescribed burn
The Sanibel Police Department (SPD) reported that it will assist with traffic control during the planned prescribed burn of the J.N. “Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s Legion Curve today, July 1, from 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sanibel-Captiva Road will be temporarily reduced to one lane as SPD personnel direct vehicles and users of the Shared Use Path through the area.
