County seeks public input on fertilizer ordinance

Lee County recently deployed an email survey to gauge public awareness of the annual county fertilizer ordinance, which will go into effect on June 1 — and applies to Captiva.
Each year, the county embarks on a campaign to educate new and existing unincorporated Lee County residents and landscapers about the fertilizer ordinance and the importance of halting the use of fertilizers that contain nitrogen or phosphorus during the rainy summer months.
The 13-question survey focuses on topics such as how often homeowners fertilize their lawns and whether homeowners are aware of guidelines and impacts associated with fertilizers.
The results of the survey will allow the county to measure the community’s understanding of the ordinance and evaluate methods used to reach and inform the public.
People can also visit FertilizeSmart.com to take the survey.
