UPDATE: Rec center provides update on activities, events

(Editor’s note: Due to Hurricane Milton, the Sanibel Recreation Center will be closed today, Oct. 8, through Oct. 11.)
The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.
Fall Scents & Sweets will be held on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will create their own no-bake pumpkin pie. While it chills in the fridge, they will enjoy a spiced beverage and craft their own fall potpourri using pine cones, cinnamon and other ingredients. Cost is $24 for members and $30 for non-members.
A Fun Day will take place on Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will offer a variety of fun craft activities, games and swim time. Enrollment is open to kindergarten through eighth grade. Each child will need to bring a lunch, water, swimsuit, goggles, towel and sunscreen. Cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.
The State Attorney’s Office will give a free presentation on Property Loss and Identity Theft on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. Attendees will gain insight into the tactics employed by fraudsters to steal identities and scams targeting seniors. The presentation will also provide details on property loss benefits available to those ages 60 and older, as well as disabled adults who have experienced property loss due to criminal or delinquent activities. Additionally, a brief overview of the State Attorney’s Office will be provided, including its bureaus and contact information.
Sanibel Beach Parking Permits for residents and property owners are available for purchase. The vehicle registration or lease agreement for each vehicle for which a permit is being purchased must be presented at the time of the purchase. Acceptable proof of residency or property ownership include: driver’s license with a Sanibel address; valid government issued photo identification card with a Sanibel address; Lee County voter registration card with a Sanibel address; tax bill with the homestead exemption for the Sanibel property that the owner owns; tax bill with the property ownership on Sanibel; and notarized declaration of domicile listing a Sanibel residence. Permits may be purchased using cash, check, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and Visa.
