Shell club to hold monthly meeting
The Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club will meet on Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center, at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel. The guest speaker will be Greg Curry on “Scaphella junonia and Subspecies.” He has collected shells worldwide for a few years, but Curry has focused his efforts on volutes for the past 45 years. He will bring some of his junonias with him. In the past two years, Curry has only focused on the genus Scaphella. Born and raised in the Florida Keys, he has collected shells since he got his first ones off a shrimp boat at his father’s docks in 1955. Prior to the meeting, a silent auction will be held at 1:30 p.m. There will also be a live auction of several premium shells. The meeting is free and open to the public.
