School district extends closure of schools, offices
The School District of Lee County provided an update regarding Hurricane Milton.
At 1:15 p.m. today, Oct. 8, the district reported that it continues to work with the Lee County Emergency Operations Center as its prepares for the storm’s arrival to Southwest Florida. As landfall is now expected on Oct. 9 through the morning of Oct. 10, it does not anticipate there will be sufficient time to close shelter sites, assess all buildings, and ensure their safety for reopening by Oct. 11.
Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of students and staff as its top priority, the district will continue all school and district office closures through Oct. 11. This includes all previously scheduled events. However, principals, additional administrators, building supervisors, and other critical personnel are expected to continue to perform their emergency situation duties.
“Please ensure that you adhere to your area evacuation recommendations and procedures and that you have made all the preparations to keep you and your families safe,” officials reported. “Thank you and stay safe.”
