Sanibel fire provides elevator safety tips
The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District reported that taking precautions for home elevator safety as a storm approaches is necessary as it may prevent repair expenses, inconvenience and personal injury.
Fire Marshal Larry Williams shared the following steps that the public can take to prepare for any weather event that approaches the island:
– Park the elevator at the highest landing with the gate and door fully closed.
– Turn the cab’s run/stop switch inside the cab to the stop position.
– Turn the power to the elevator off. There are two power sources, one for the machine and one for the cab lights.
– Turn off the battery backup to prevent the alarm from sounding and the battery from draining.
– Do not use the elevator until the storm passes, and full power has been restored to your home.
