Rec center provides update on activities, events
The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.
From Sept. 26-28, there will be no access to the weight room, gymnasium and lobby due to fumes associated with the gymnasium floor project. The outdoor courts, pools and program rooms will remain open. Additionally, the after-school program will operate as normal.
A Fun Day will take place on Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will offer a variety of fun craft activities, games and swim time. Enrollment is open to kindergarten through eighth grade. Each child will need to bring a lunch, water, swimsuit, goggles, towel and sunscreen. Cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.
The Sanibel Co-Ed Adult Softball League is taking registrations. Running from Oct. 16 to Dec. 18, the games will be held on Wednesdays with the first game starting at 6:15 p.m., weather permitting. T-shirts and team trophies will be awarded to the top teams. Registration is open to ages 18 and older. Team fee is $650; minimum of nine players and maximum of 15 players. A mandatory coaches meeting will be held on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. Going into season, Sanibel Adult Pick-Up Softball will only be available on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.
The center is issuing the 2024 Residential Hurricane Passes. The residential (green) permit is for residents and property owners on Sanibel and Captiva. They can be obtained with a valid ID with one’s island address or a valid ID with another proof of residence, which are listed on the application. Email the completed application, along with the required documentation, to hurricanepass@mysanibel.com and the permit will be mailed out once the application is processed. Applications can also be dropped off at the center.

A variety of memberships, passes and punch cards are available.
The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
