City announces road closures for holiday parade

The city of Sanibel reported that Periwinkle Way will be closed from Donax Street to Tarpon Bay Road on July 4 from 9 a.m. to about noon for the 31st Annual Independence Day Parade.
At 9 a.m., a detour for vehicles will be routed on Periwinkle at Donax to East Gulf Drive, Middle Gulf Drive, West Gulf Drive and Rabbit Road. The roads will reopen immediately following the parade.
Motorists are strongly urged to plan travel around the times or along an alternate route.
“Sanibel Police Chief Dalton reminds Sanibel motorists to be especially alert for parade floats, pedestrians and cyclists in the area of the parade and to expect delays,” the city reported.
In addition, a limited number of handicap parking places will be available at the Sanibel Community Park, at 2231 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, until 9 a.m. — when Periwinkle will close for the parade.
