Captiva library, county system offer programs

Part of the Lee County Library System, the Captiva Memorial Library is offering the following free programming:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– March 6: Coffee and Characters from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

An hour of coffee, books and conversation. Stop by to discuss favorite books. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Refreshments will be provided.

– March 11: Picture This! Magazine Frame Craft from 2 to 4 p.m.

Make your own paper reed frame using recycled magazines. Registration is required before March 11 at 2 p.m.

TEEN PROGRAMS

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

– March 6-8: Make a Paper Bag Leprechaun

(daily during operating hours)

Make your own leprechaun out of paper bags and cool cut outs.

The library is open on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

In addition, the library system is offering the following free virtual programming:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– March 6: Online Author Event with Nina Totenberg from 4 to 5 p.m.

NPR legal affairs correspondent and New York Times bestseller Nina Totenberg will talk about her nearly 50-year friendship with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her book, “Dinners With Ruth: A Memoir on the Power of Friendships.” Registration is required.

– March 12: Online DNA Testing Companies — Pros and Cons from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Learn about the features and limitations of DNA testing companies before using the services. Ancestry, 23 and Me, My Heritage and Family Tree DNA will be discussed. DNA matches, ethnicity estimates and the differences of Y-DNA, MtDNA and Autosomal DNA testing will also be covered. Registration is required before March 11 at 8 p.m.
