The Sanibel Captiva Lions Club sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster Contest, challenging students at The Sanibel School to participate. Working with art teacher Erica Sharp, nine youths entered the contest. The judging was recently completed by a panel of local experts, including artists Rachel Pierce, Toni Westland and Lacy McClary. The contact winners are: seventh-grader Gillian Davis, first place; eighth-grader Connor Storey, second place; seventh-grader Arlet Sorto-Sanchez, third place; and eighth-grader Jhana Hoang, honorable mention. The club reported that Gillian’s poster has been sent to Lions International for entry into the next stage of the competition. For over three decades, Lions Clubs around the globe have hosted the contest for schools and youth groups, which is open to ages 11-13.
