CITY OF SANIBEL Lisa S. will hold a free trial Adult Ballet/Stretch Class on Sept. 19 at the Sanibel Recreation Center.

The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on the following new and upcoming activities.

The Weight Room and Egret Room have been updated with the arrival of the new, state-of-the art equipment machines. In the Egret Room, the Echelon Smart Connect EXPRO Bike is a first of its kind at the center. One feature is the ability to do live on-demand workouts at the touch of a button. Also, users have the ability to flip the touchscreen for personalized workouts that can be done while standing or sitting in front of the bike. Other new elements are the elevated stretch table, agility floor decals, pull-up bar, TRX straps and Battle rope. They allow users to perform a variety of exercises that can help tone and strengthen the entire body. Staff are available to provide guidance and answer questions.

The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District will offer complimentary blood pressure screenings on Sept. 19 from 9 and 11:30 a.m. High blood pressure increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease and even blindness in some cases. The screenings are offered as a first step in determining if further examination by a health care professional is necessary.

Also on Sept. 19, former professional ballet dancer Lisa S. will provide a free trial of Adult Ballet/Stretch Class at 10:30 a.m. For beginner/immediate; all are welcome. No tights required.

A Fun Day will take place on Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will offer a variety of fun craft activities, games and swim time. Enrollment is open for kindergartners through eighth-graders. Each child will need to bring a lunch, water, swimsuit, goggles, towel and sunscreen.

The center is seeking volunteers for the Holiday Party and Youth Reindeer Run on Dec. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. To sign up or for more information, visit https://dash.pointapp.org/events/87562.

The center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Daily, weekly, semi-annual and annual memberships are available.
