Repair work begins on refuge’s Wildlife Drive
REFUGE/DDWS
The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge reported that U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service crews from up north — inactivated by the cold — recently began working on shoring up wash-outs and safety hazards caused by Hurricane Ian along the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s Wildlife Drive and trails and at Tarpon Bay Explorers. Refuge Complex Project Leader Kevin Godsea hopes to see the drive open in February. The DDWS gave a shout-out to the workers from the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in Illinois for helping the Sanibel refuge with its comeback.
