City council OKs new budget, millage rate
The Sanibel City Council held its second and final budget hearing on Oct. 3.
The city provided the following summary of the meeting:
The council voted to approve a resolution on the budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1 and will end on Sept. 30. The final budget totals $84,029,407 and includes the general fund, all special revenue funds, all capital project funds, enterprise funds, interfund transfers, all reserves and beginning fund balances.
In addition, the council voted to approve a resolution to adopt the final operating and voted debt service ad valorem millage rates for tax year 2022-23 for the city. The operating millage rate is 1.9750 mills.
The council also voted to approve a resolution to establish committed fund balances for the city for disaster reserve for $4.5 million and environmental initiative reserve for $1 million.
MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICERS’ RETIREMENT TRUST FUND
Also during the meeting, the council voted to approve a resolution pertaining to the Sanibel Board of Trustees of the Municipal Police Officers’ Retirement Trust Fund. It ratified Matt Casola and Christofer Chiappy to serve on the Sanibel Police Pension Board as the two trustees elected by the police officers employed by the city who participate in the plan. The term of service shall be Oct. 1 through Sept. 30.
