SANIBEL PUBLIC LIBRARY Dr. Michele Harper

With support from the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, the Sanibel Public Library has launched a series of virtual author talks over the summer to include bestselling authors and thought leaders.

The next lecture will be held on Aug. 22 at 9 p.m. and will feature Dr. Michele Harper, author of “The Beauty in Breaking.” Her memoir is the poignant story of an emergency room physician’s journey in a life of service to others, that taught her how to heal herself.

A question-and-answer session with the author will follow.

To register for the author talk, visit the Sanibel Public Library at www.sanlib.org and follow the link on the homepage. Once registered, participants will receive an emailed link to use to login for the lecture.

Those who need help registering can contact notices@sanlib.org or 239-472-2483.

The library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.

On Aug. 16 and 23 at 10 a.m., Medicare advisor Frank Ciccone of Wellcare will present a program about Medicare Advantage choices. He is not connected with the federal Medicare program.

Visit the calendar at www.sanlib.org for the most up-to-date information.

The library is offering Book Bingo — a self-directed reading challenge for adults, with opportunities for prizes. Participants fill appropriate squares on their Bingo sheet as they read. Recommended reading for the challenge can be picked up from the book display near the east service desk. Pick up a Book Bingo sheet from the service desks or download it at sanlib.org. Turn in sheets by Aug. 31.

During August, stop by the library to see a collection of vintage Pyrex dishes that is on loan from Beth Jarrell. The display case offers a peek at unique collections. If you have a unique and interesting collection that you would like to share, contact the library.

Also, the Sanibel-Captiva Art League exhibit “Home Sweet Home” will be on display until Sept. 30.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.

Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.

The Sanibel Public Library is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
