The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum announced the return of marine biologist Chris Whitt to the education team.

Whitt spent time at the museum as an education intern in 2018 while studying at Eckerd College. During his internship, he presented at the live animal tank talks and helped with the Mollusks on the Move mobile outreach program. The experience, along with classes like marine invertebrate biology and biological oceanography, allowed Whitt to find a passion in educating others about mollusks.

Upon graduating from Eckerd College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in marine biology, he was certain he wanted to return to the museum to serve in its Beyond Shells living gallery of aquariums.

Whitt is from Ohio but has been visiting Sanibel since he was a toddler and has always enjoyed collecting seashells along the shore. He remembers coming to the museum with his grandparents as a child and learning about the animals that make shells. As a marine biologist, Whitt is thrilled to have the opportunity to share his passion for mollusks with the next generation of marine enthusiasts.
