Captiva library, county system offer programs

The Captiva Memorial Library, at 11560 Chapin Lane, Captiva, is offering the following free programming:

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

– June 8-11: Treasure Chest Craft

(daily during operating hours; while supplies last)

Decorate your own cardboard chest to hold all of your treasures.

– June 14-18: Flowerpot Whale Craft

(daily during operating hours; while supplies last)

This sea creature art project made from papier-maché and foam pieces is an ocean of fun.

– June 21-25: Under the Sea Picture Frame Craft

(daily during operating hours; while supplies last)

Decorate a foam picture frame with stickers and add your own beach photo.

The library is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about a program or to register, call the library at 239-533-4890.

In addition, the Lee County Library System is offering the following free virtual programs:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– June 15: Online Writer’s Workshop at 2 p.m.

A writer’s workshop creates a community of writers and keeps individuals in the habit of consistently writing. A writing prompt will be given and each writer will have 20 minutes to write, then the group offers their piece for constructive criticism. Advance registration required.

– June 20: Online Meditation Mondays at 11 a.m.

The guided program will provide visual instructions to help keep participants focused and meditating. Advance registration required.

TEEN PROGRAMS

– June 16: Teen Summer of Service Workshop Series at 1 p.m.

For ages 12-17 and graduating high school seniors. Earn service hours while helping your community. The seven-week series introduces participants to a variety of local agencies that provide services throughout the community and offers the opportunity to brainstorm solutions that can make Lee County better. Each one-hour program will include a short presentation by the guest speaker, breakout group discussions and activities. Presenters will offer options for service projects that can be completed. Participants will need to pick-up a free kit of supplies to complete the service projects prior to the start of the program. Completed projects will be due back to the library by Aug. 13. Students that fully participate in the program can earn a minimum of 25 hours. Advance registration required.
