The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.

The following programs are open to the public. No registration is required to attend. The library recommends checking its online calendar at www.sanlib.org in case the details of a program change.

“Make Fizzy Bath Bomb” will take place on April 30 at 1 p.m. Children in grades 6-12 can create the items for a Mother’s Day gift or gift for any adult. Food coloring and essential oils will be available.

In addition, Youth Service Librarian Deanna Evans will present “Family Storytime” today, April 27, and April 28 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Open to babies to children about age 5, participants will sing, read, question and move around during the stories, followed by early literacy centers of play to flex minds, motor skills and creativity. The program will include an art/craft center. Masks are recommended.

Library patrons have access to an even larger selection of independent and foreign films, thanks to the generosity of BIG ARTS. It has once again donated film series films for checkout. More than 100 new DVDs and Blu-Rays have been added to the library’s collection, including “Three Identical Strangers,” “Colette,” “Shoplifters” and “The Farewell.”

“We appreciate this gift from BIG ARTS,” Duane Shaffer, head of collection development for the library, said. “They are always popular items. Patrons look for these award-winning movies and documentary films while browsing films to borrow.”

Stop by the library for the Pop Up Dollar-Per-Bag Book Sale. Look near the East Service Desk for the sale table, under the Big Top. Books will be restocked daily. In addition the library’s Book Sale Room offers DVDs, CDs, books and magazines — all individually priced. All book sales support the Sanibel Public Library Foundation.

During the month of April, view Sue and Gary Scheiwe’s 50-year collection of Kentucky Derby cups and other Derby memorabilia. Glasses include winner’s names and plastic cups list the horses who were the runner-up. If you have a unique collection that you would like to share, contact the library.

Made in the United States, canvas Sanibel Public Library tote bags are available for $15. There are 12 different colors to choose from, including new ones: persimmon, desert camo and woodland camo.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.

Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.

The Sanibel Public Library is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
