Sanctuary Charity Classic raises more than $200K
The Sanctuary Charity Classic on Jan. 29 at The Sanctuary Golf Club raised over $200,000.
More than 150 participants and volunteers helped to raise the funds for nonprofits, like F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Community Housing and Resources, the Children’s Education Center of the Islands, The Sanibel School Fund and SanCap Cares. The golf tournament was followed by a helicopter golf ball drop, reception and award ceremony. Helicopter Golf Ball Drop winner Mike Roos handed his winnings back to The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation to help those in need in the community.
“We were elated to see everyone pull together and exceed our goal of raising funds to benefit human needs on our islands and our employee scholarship fund,” foundation President John McCabe said. “The outpouring of generosity confirms The Sanctuary and our community truly care and support those in need on Sanibel and Captiva.”
The 2022 champions were:
– Gross champions: Dave Escamilla, Craig Jorgensen, Eric Messerschmidt and Mike Roos
– Net champions: Craig Albert, Eric Carlson, Kyle Decicco and Brian Terrell
– Net runner-ups: Jim Courter, Carmen Courter, John Kaltenmark and AJ Scribante
– Couples champions: Bob and Kathy Paul, and Joe and Carolyn Palchak
The foundation’s mission is to support nonprofits that positively impact the lives of people living or working on Sanibel or Captiva and to provide educational opportunity grants to Sanctuary employees and their families. Through its fundraisers, it provides ongoing support to the islands’ primary social service nonprofits by supplementing member donations. The foundation has supported unanticipated local needs, like tutors at The Sanibel School.
