The Sanibel Island Fishing Club will be holding its first monthly meeting of the new year on Tuesday evening, Jan. 11. The meeting will be held in the north room of the Sanibel Island Community House, which is located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. While the meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with a half hour social, the presentation will begin at 7 p.m. sharp. There is no admission charge for this event and the angling public is cordially invited to attend. Refreshments are available at a nominal charge. The City of Sanibel requires that everyone inside the Community House must wear a mask and vaccinations are highly recommended.

This month’s featured speaker is the new CEO of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, James Evans. Evans was formerly the director of director of natural resources with the City of Sanibel. He has extensive experience in all SCCF program areas, with particular expertise in water quality research and policy, habitat management, and environmental education. His expertise in these areas should make for a very interesting program.

Evans will be bringing the club up to date with what is currently happening with the new Lake Okeechobee release schedules recently announced by the Army Corp of Engineers. With water quality being of utmost importance to anglers throughout Southwest Florida this presentation should be of interest to everyone who wets a line in our local waters. Immediately after his presentation the floor will open up to a lengthy question and answer period wherein the club members can ask specific questions about the various water quality issues impacting our surrounding waters.

If you have ever been interested in the local fishing scene becoming a member of the Sanibel Island Fishing Club should be on your agenda.
