Carolyn Caplan, of Cleveland, Ohio, found a junonia on Dec. 7 in the shallow waters between Bowman’s Beach and Blind Pass on Sanibel. She reported that she was walking along the shore talking to another sheller when she noticed the distinct spots. Caplan said, “You are going to freak out,” and pulled the shell from sand. She added that she never thought she would find one! Caplan has been vacationing on Sanibel for 45 years and recently moved back to Ohio after 17 years on Key Largo.
