The Friends of Cayo Costa State Park recently reported that it was a banner year for its Adopt A Nest program and for the total sea turtle nests and hatchlings, which increased by about 10 percent over 2020. For loggerhead sea turtles, there were 452 total nests and 20,708 total hatchlings. For green sea turtles, there were 11 total nests and 892 total hatchlings. The FoCC thanked everyone who contributed and adopted a nest and gave a shout out to Florida Gulf Coast University’s Dr. Phil Allman and his interns, who stayed very busy during the nesting season from May to October.
