GULF COAST SYMPHONY “Gulf Coast Chamber Orchestra: Gaelic Symphony”

The Gulf Coast Symphony will present the following at the Music & Arts Community Center, at 13411 Shire Lane, Fort Myers:

– Nov. 18: “Jazz at the MACC: The Music Of Art Blakey” at 7 p.m.

The Gulf Coast Jazz Collective will be joined by trumpeter James Suggs and saxophonist Valerie Gillespie to play the music of master drummer Art Blakey. Blakey was one of the most prolific band leaders of his time, known for his powerful drum solos, and his creation of the Jazz Messengers. Tickets range from $20 to $44.

– Nov. 19: “Fresh Voices: Paul McDonald & Ryleigh Modig” at 7:30 p.m.

Fresh from her 2021 appearance on NBC’s “The Voice,” Ryleigh Modig will bring her talents to Southwest Florida to perform on the Gulf Coast Symphony’s Fresh Voices series. Joining her is singer-songwriter Paul McDonald, from Huntsville, Alabama, who has appeared on stages around the country and in Europe. McDonald placed eighth on the 10th season of “American Idol.” Tickets are $22.

– Nov. 20: “Gulf Coast Chamber Orchestra: Gaelic Symphony” at 7:30 p.m.

The Gulf Coast Symphony Chamber Orchestra will perform Amy Beach’s “Gaelic Symphony,” also known as “Symphony in E Minor, Op. 32.” In 1896, it was the first symphony by an American woman composer to gain international attention. Inspired by her heritage, Beach draws upon the “unpretentious beauty” of traditional Irish folk melodies. Also on the program is Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture” and Reena Esmail’s “Black Iris.” Tickets range from $20 to $44.
