The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation will host its first Evenings at the Homestead for the season on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Bailey Homestead Preserve, at 1300 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Leading a new multi-disciplinary flagship initiative, the University of Florida’s Center for Coastal Solutions formed a Comprehensive Coastal Observing Network (CompCON) over the summer with the SCCF to monitor, model and deliver data products for informing decisions related to addressing coastal hazards. SCCF’s River, Estuary, Coastal Observing Network data-collection capabilities were paired with UF’s data analytics capacity.

An inaugural semester course called the Coastal Policy Lab brought together six law students from the UF Law Conservation Clinic and six engineering graduate students with the UF-CCS to address coastal resiliency on Sanibel and Captiva.

Led by UF Environmental Engineering Assistant Professor and UF-CCS Director Christine Angelini, the program will include an overview of the partnership, why it is important to Southwest Florida and how the partnership can help to improve water quality in the area. UF Law Professor Thomas Ankerson and SCCF Marine Laboratory Director Eric Milbrandt will also address the project, current and future research collaborations, and current graduate student projects.

Tickets are $10.
