Sanibel library offers resources for the holidays
The Sanibel Public Library is the community’s go-to for help with their holiday planning.
In addition to access to cooking databases and cookbooks, the library loans cooking kits, which check out like books. The kits are circulated in bags with a coordinating cookbook and instructions. Some kits are especially handy at this time of year, like the soup pot, football-themed server, cookie kit, tart kits and crepe kit.
Thousands of recipes can be found at A to Z World Food and the A to Z America food culture and recipe database. To access the websites from home, visit the Resources page at www.sanlib.org.
Borrow magazines like Bon Appétit, Cook’s Illustrated, and Food & Wine, or use a library card to borrow e-books and magazines with the Libby App. The Hoopla app also offers e-cookbooks.
Patrons can borrow cookbooks written for children, with easy-to-follow recipes.
For crafting ideas, borrow crafting, knitting and sewing e-magazines with the Libby app. For print magazines, try Quiltmaker or Martha Stewart Living. There are many shell crafting, quilting, upcycled clothes, papercraft, and other crafting books in nonfiction.
The library is offering a “Computer Coach” service on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 1 p.m. Bring in your device for technology assistance with Hoopla, Kanopy, Libby and other library apps. For one-on-one assistance, go to www.sanlib.org/techappointment to register or call 239-472-2483 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome if the Computer Coach is available.
In addition, a Sanibel-Captiva Art League exhibit is on display at the library until Nov. 22. It includes artwork by members Donna Filomio, Carolyn Johns, Mary H. Klunk, Gloria Krekel and Dave Tomkins.
The Book Sale Room has new fiction, coffee table books, magazines, CDs and young adult books. Most books are priced under $4. In the lobby, there is a $1 per book sale with bestseller fiction.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.
Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
The Sanibel Public Library is open: Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
